This legendary guitar was specially designed by Leo Fender himself to cater for the 12 String electric boom in the 1960’s with bands such as The Beatles and The Byrds. This model has been used on extensive hits in Rock ‘n’ Roll history from a wide range of players such as Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, who used one on Stairway to Heaven, Bryan Adams used one when writing Summer of ’69 and Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love also had a matching pair of Fender XII’s in 1992. Kurt Cobain used his when writing the opening track off In Utero ‘Serve the Servants while Courtney Love’s featured on ‘Miss World’ on Hole’s Live Through This album. The guitar is very rare and features the special hockey stick style headstock. The guitar is in full working order and the pickups sound timeless with great chime and clarity. This Fender XII 12 String dates from the 12th January 1966B. It has approximately the following measurements, 41.275mm / 16250″ nut width, 22.28mm / 0.87716535″ neck thickness at the first fret, and 22.89mm / 0.9011811mm at the 12th fret. The guitar is very comfortable to play with a C shape neck contour with a 7.25″ radius. The frets are 2.60mm / 0.102362″ wide and 0.80mm / 0.0314961 deep. The truss rod is in full working order. This twelve String guitar is in good condition for it’s, although there is finish checking which is common on 1960’s Fenders, there is a crack in the finish on the back of the guitar and there is some fading to the black edges and some wear to the bottom of the guitar. This gives the guitar character and vintage mojo, if only guitars could talk! This 12 string comes with a vintage Fender bass case from the 1960s, it fits in there ok, but there is space as you would expect, but due to the rarity of these guitars the cases are hard to come by. The case has a cool looking vintage State Farm insurance stick on it. The guitar features a unique split pick up the design with a four-way selector switch which gives you the bridge only in position 1, neck and bridge only in the second position, in phase in position 3, and the neck only in position 4. The bridge has individual saddles for each set of strings to allow precise intonation and advantage over other 12 string guitar brands. Other notable players include Tom Petty, Nick Mcabe of The Verve, Krist Novoselic when he played in Sweet 75, Chad Taylor of Live, Mike Einziger of Incubus, Jeff Beck, Pete Townsend, Lou Reed and Eric Clapton to name but a few. A truly legendary and iconic guitar that is highly sought after.
